You look down the track and see a steam train approaching. As the train arrives, the people cheer. You see an unusual man standing waving. He looks like Abraham Lincoln, but wait. It is Abraham Lincoln. The train stops at the station. The president asks, “Who would like to come aboard?”Įveryone rushes to the train, but you say to yourself, “This is not real.”Īs mentioned. This is not your typical train ride. It is a ride back in time along a rail line once owned by the Northern Central Railroad. It is pulled by the Number 17 William H. You shake your head. “The president flies on a plane. He ‘aint coming here.” “Oh, we are waiting for the president. He is coming soon.” You exit Interstate 83, and you make your way into the town of New Freedom, Pennsylvania, a town just north of the Mason-Dixon Line. You arrive here, and you say to yourself, “There is nothing here.” But there is. You see a rail line and the New Freedom depot, but many small towns have rail lines and depots. What is so special about this town? You park, and you get out of the car. Then you notice a change. Your car is now a horse and buggy. You see people at the station. Everyone is dressed like it is the 1860’s. You walk up to one of the people and ask, “What are you wait for?” Yes, the train goes down the track and returns the along the same route back to the starting point, but that is just a tiny tidbit. Here is the story.

Now you are saying, “wait a minute. Are you saying that this train ride is completely different?” Ladies and Gentlemen, if you enjoy typical train trips, be advised that Steam Into History will be a major let down, and you will not want to ride this train.

Now some of you are saying, “I know this. You buy the ticket at the station. You board the train. You ride the train being pulled by one of those locomotives that was built a hundred years ago to the end of the line, and you ride back. I have been on so many of these train trips. They are all the same.” So you have never heard about “Steam Into History”. Some of you are wondering what it is. It is a train ride along a historic rail line in southern Pennsylvania.
